Sat, 24 Jan 2009 - I've followed the odd webcomic in the past, and nothing would irk me more than when the quality and number of updates would slowly start to dwindle—perhaps accompanied by the odd "I'm still alive" message from the author—and my small kernel of hope for the comic's future would slowly be smothered by a pillow of anxious waiting and uncertainty.
When I started drawing web comics, I always promised myself that I would never become that guy.
I absolutely love the community that has formed around Cectic, and the friends that I've made because of it, but continuing at the slowed pace these last few months has really taken its toll.
When I started Cectic, I had all the time I wanted to find inspiration, develop and flesh out ideas, and spend the time needed on the details to create something that I could be proud of. Lately, I have been dreading the weekends because I simply haven't had time to think about the comic, and always have so much on my plate that I know Cectic is not going to get the attention it deserves. The result has been what I feel is a decline, not only quantity, but in quality as well. That is something I do not want to see happen to Cectic.
So I have made the very tough (and heart-breaking) decision to end Cectic's run. I will, however, continue to post content to the bonus feed until I have caught up to my promise of one comic a month up to and including January. This content will most likely be hand-sketched comics covering the ideas I've had, but never had time to bring to fruition in the style I have cultivated for Cectic.
I have also opened up the license covering my original works on this site—you are now free to use them in whatever manner you desire, commercial or otherwise, without needing my permission (this does not apply to the bonus or translated comics, however). In addition, I have added new links to the high resolution versions of every comic in the archive for anyone who wishes to take advantage of the new license. I plan on continuing to host this site for as long as I am able.
To all of my friends and fans, it has been my great honor and pleasure to draw Cectic for you over the past year and a half. I am blown away and humbled by all of the support and kind words I have received about the comic over its run, and it is with enormous gratitude to you all that I close out this final news post.
Goodbye, for now.
